How to get the perfect facial at home…

Short on time? Tight on budget? Let’s admit it not everyone has the luxury of booking a facial as often as we would like.  I’m going to share my secrets in getting healthy and glowing skin in 5 simple steps.

  1. Cleanse                                                                                                                               Before starting any facial it is important to cleanse skin thoroughly of any dirt or build up so skin is prepped for next steps.  Start of by washing hands and than pick your favorite cleanser and double cleanse skin with warm water. When cleansing skin move fingers in circular motion, moving from bottom to top.  This motions helps with blood circulation and mild exfoliation. Now that you skin is cleansed, gently pat dry your face.
  2.  Exfoliate                                                                                                                               Now this step is not necessary more than 2-3 times a week.  But,  if we are having a mini spa day why not include this important step in.  Exfoliation is key to getting rid of dead skin cells.  In doing so, it helps your skin absorb any extra products and helps the skin to glow and look more youthful, and lets admit it we all want to look youthful.  Apply a gentle facial scrub in circular motions onto your neck and face moving  upwards. To really amp up spa experience make some hot towels by warming in microwave and remove product.  (Make sure towels are not too hot to touch of skin.)
  3.  Tone         Toner is crucial for cleansing your pores further of any impurities and also helps close them.  This step is also important in balancing your skin pH so other products used can be properly penetrated.  Take a cotton ball and work product onto skin from neck up.  Let it dry and move on to the next step which is my ultimate favorite.
  4. Masking                                                                                                                              Whether it be a cream mask, sheet mask, rubber mask, or a DIY mask, pick a proper mask of choice and sit back and relax for about 30 minutes for best results.  I usually like to take cool cucumber slices, raw potato wedges, or even boiled tea bags at room temperature and place on eyes to help stimulate blood flow and reduce puffiness while masking.  I also like to play soothing music and light up a couple candles to set the mood to relaxation.
  5. Moisturize                                                                                                                              This is the final step to your home facial.  Make sure you are moisturizing both neck and face.  Also if you will be out during the day make sure you include a moisturizer with SPF.  If you have the means incorporate a serum or essence before your moisturizer for further hydration.

Hope these quick simple steps gives you the luxury of having a spa day at your own home.  If you do have the funds and time I do recommend seeing a professional at least once every couple months to get proper skin care and plan to further maintain your skin. Hope you all enjoy your at home spa day.
